2011/12 League 2 Season Preview

In a bid to educate ourselves about our clubs’ opponents, fellow League 2 fans Maxi HobbsDanny Brothers and I have been busy researching and previewing every team in the division ahead of the new season. From Wednesday 27th to Saturday 30th August we’ll each be publishing 2 team previews per day, finishing off with a final predicted table on Sunday 31st. While we’ve tried hard to be as definitive and even-handed as possible with our previews, with the best will in the world we’re bound to miss aspects that a fan of each club wouldn’t, but hopefully we haven’t done anyone’s team a disservice. A link to each post in the preview will be added below as they’re published:

AFC Wimbledon – how will the Dons fare following their rightful return to the Football League?

Accrington Stanley – can Stanley can repeat last season’s unexpected play-off challenge?

Aldershot – in which direction will the Shots progress after last season’s mid-table finish?

Barnet – is another season of struggle in store for the Bees?

Bradford City – can the Bantams begin the ascent back up the divisions?

Bristol Rovers – the Pirates have assembled an impressive squad, but is it good enough to take them back to League 1?

Burton Albion – can the Brewers steer clear of a relegation scrap?

Cheltenham Town – will the Robins spend another season fighting the drop, and will Maxi assess their chances neutrally?

Crawley Town – can the deep-pocketed Red Devils continue their march upwards?

Crewe Alexandra – have the Railwaymen cured their ironic travel-sickness?

Dagenham & Redbridge – can the Daggers bounce back into League 1, or is this their level?

Gillingham – can Hessenthaler’s men force their way into the promotion reckoning, or end up looking green around the Gills?

Hereford – will the Bulls’ fighting spirit keep them away from relegation danger?

Macclesfield Town – with several of last season’s stars having departed, can the Silkmen survive?

Morecambe – can the Shrimps bounce back after last season’s disappointing showing?

Northampton – will Danny’s excitable optimism result in his preview being a load of Cobblers?

Oxford – can the Yellows sustain a promotion push?

Plymouth – will the nightmare soon be over for the Pilgrims?

Port Vale – can the Valiants tune out the off-the-field disruptions?

Rotherham – is promotion any more likely for the Millers this time around?

Shrewsbury – so close last time, but can the Shrews go one step further and claim promotion?

Southend – can the Shrimpers sustain a promotion challenge?

Swindon will their Fascist manager march them back up the … er, will the Robins’ managerial gamble pay off?

Torquay – I made sure that I saved the best for last: can the Gulls continue to overperform?
