Greenwich Gull

A League 2 blog with an overwhelmingly pro-Torquay United bias

About this site

This film probably explains it best:

Tweeting
Towards the end of the 2009/10 season I grew frustrated with the dearth of quality Torquay United coverage on the internet and resolved to address this. I began tweeting live updates from the games I attended as @GreenwichGull (because that’s where I was living at the time),  eventually covering every single match regardless. The commentary was obviously more colourful when I was actually there and not listening intently via the rickety Gulls Player. While the weekend demands of work, other football projects and family life saw me “retire” from this after a few seasons, it’s great to see that the official Torquay twitter account now provides frequent updates during matches.

Blogging
As I increasingly bumped up against the character constraints of Twitter, I resolved to try my hand at blogging. After initially writing exclusively about Torquay, which I still do on these pages, I spent much of the 2010/11 season refining my approach and found that my output was becoming increasingly analytical. To avoid enraging Gulls fans, I decided to split my output across two blogs. Here you’ll find all of my Torquay-specific writings; if you’re after experimentally analytical coverage of the Football League in its entirety, then you can also find me blogging over at Experimental 361 and on Twitter at @Experimental361.

    Any links with Greenwich itself?

Yes – lived there for two years but recently moved to another part of London that didn’t begin with a ‘G’, and by that point the name had stuck!
