A League 2 blog with an overwhelmingly pro-Torquay United bias
The table below ranks each League 1 side according to the ease of their remaining fixtures on 3 measures: the average points tally of their remaining opponents, the number of games they have left to play and the proportion of these which are at home. It’s fairly rudimentary stuff but instructive nonetheless, as long as viewed alongside the latest league table:
I’m not much of an expert outside of League 2, but what this tells me is that Southampton have a much easier run-in than Huddersfield, meaning that they have an excellent chance of overtaking them in the race for the 2nd automatic promotion place. Bristol Rovers, Walsall and Dag & Red all have nasty finales to their respective seasons, which will complicate their struggles against the drop, while Exeter and Leyton Orient should be capable of a late surge towards the playoffs. Bournemouth have the easiest run-in, so I’d be shocked if they can’t hang on to their playoff spot.
Note: I’ve ignored Plymouth’s points deduction in my calculations, as this has no bearing on their strength as an opponent.
